Best time to visit

The peak season with the most consistent winds is typically from November to March. This is also the summer season, when temperatures average between 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F). In terms of wind patterns, the mornings tend to be a bit calmer, and the wind picks up in the afternoon, allowing for a split between your morning activities and nice afternoon sessions. 

Top Kitesurfing Spots in and Around Cape Town

Bloubergstrand

This is the most famous kiting beach with iconic views, wind and water conditions, and facilities. Bloubergstrand, also known as “Kite Beach”, offers an amazing view of Table Mountain, and beautiful blue water. We recommend this beach for intermediate to advanced kiters, as there is a side-onshore wind with small to medium waves.There are also some useful facilities offered at this beach such as ample parking, gear rental shops in case you don't have your own or forgot something, and vibey beachfront cafes for little coffee breaks or after sesh beer. In November or December, Blouberg becomes the stage for the prestigious Red Bull King of the Air competition, thanks to its ideal Big Air conditions. 

Big Bay 

Big Bay is a family-friendly beach known for its gentle waves and relaxed atmosphere. The area features a range of shops, restaurants, and conveniently located restrooms. It’s perfect for beginner and intermediate kitesurfers, and has been hosted global water sports events, including past editions of Red Bull King of the Air. 

Langebaan Lagoon

This is the perfect spot for beginners and freestyle surfers due to its heavenly flat water. Langebaan Lagoon is also home to a beautiful diversity of bird and marine species, only 1.5 hour drive north of Cape Town. If you aren’t feeling the drive for just one session, there is also the option of staying there in self-catering cottages and guesthouses.

Muizenberg

If you’re looking for a great surf and kitesurf spot, Muizenberg is the place to be. Friendly to beginners, it boasts plenty of surf shops, schools, and beachfront eateries, all set against the backdrop of colorful beach huts and scenic views. While enjoying the waves, keep in mind that Muizenberg is also known for occasional shark sightings. Fortunately, there are Shark Spotters in place to keep everyone informed and safe, so you can focus on having a great time in the water!

Witsand (Breede River)

Witsand may be less well-known, but its quieter atmosphere allows you to enjoy consistent winds, along with opportunities for whale watching and fishing when you need a break. The area also offers a variety of accommodations, including lodges and campsites, making it easy to extend your stay and soak it all in.

-  Visa-free entry: Citizens from various countries such as, USA, UK, and EU can enter South Africa visa-free for up to 90 days, but it is always best to double check requirements pertaining to your country before booking your trip.

- Vaccinations: There are no required vaccinations, but it is recommended to be up-to-date on routine vaccines.
