Sophia Abreu is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and has been kiting since just 2016. Having grown up alongside the ocean, she’s been surfing since she was a kid but didn’t start kiting until her dad began and became impassioned by the sport. He got Sophia hooked, and because of her comfort of being in the ocean and her strength in riding waves, it was an instant hit.

Sophia has always had a competitive edge, having played various sports at a high level growing up. She always knew she wanted to pursue something she loved, even if it wasn’t conventional – because in the end it’s gonna be something you love that you’re best at. Once she began excelling at kiting, she took it to the next level and trained until she came fourth at her first international event in Mauritius in 2019.
